I hope the first person to speak with Adam Scott after his epic collapse was fellow Australian and owner of his own major collapse, Greg Norman. Outside of Jean van de Velde, Norman is one of the only golfers to know what Scott is feeling now. The Claret Jug already had A-D-A-M S-C-O-T etched on it when he sent his drive on 18 into the fairway bunker and when he missed his par putt the collapse was complete.
Ernie Els’ 4th major may go down as the one he was gifted instead of won, but he earned this win. In shooting his final round 2-under 68, Els was the only golfer in the last 6 pairings to shoot under par today. While the rest struggled with the changing winds and the pressure, the Big Easy stayed clam and shot 4-under on the back 9. In a season that saw him miss his first Masters since 1994, Els doesn’t need to worry about for the next 5 years. Big win by a very popular guy.
Tiger Woods is still the best player in the world, but he has no confidence in his driver anymore. Even when he had to use the long ball to get back in this tourney he failed to pull it out. He will never win another major until he gets his fearlessness back.
