By a margin of 198 points, Ashton Eaton beat fellow American Trey Hardee to win the gold medal. The outcome was never in doubt for Eaton after winning the 1st event Wednesday and never looking back. He hit personal best in 3 events and his score of 8,869 was the 2nd best in Olympic history. Will he be able to become the first decathlete since Daley Thompson in 80,84 to repeat? Rio 2016 should be great.
