The Summer of Bron continues, as Team USA defeated Argentina 109-83 to force a rematch of the 2008 Gold Medal game.
The Americans took a 7 point lead into the half, but quickly put this game away in the 3rd quarter once again. Today it was a combination of Lebron James and Kevin Durant that buried the flopping Argentinians. James scored 18 points on 8/12 shooting, while also contributing 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Durant was 5/10 from behind the three point line and had a game high 19 points.
Team USA turned their 7 point halftime lead into a 17 point advantage entering the 4th quarter. From there, Carmelo Anthony played the role of closer as he hit 4 consecutive three balls, including one of the heat check variety from about 8 feet behind the line.
As a team, the Americans took an absurd 42 three point attempts, but were able to hit 18 of them. When this team is hitting shots like that, they are absolutely impossible to defend.
Kobe Bryant led all scorers in the first half with 13 points, but did not score again. Luckily, it didn’t matter since James and Durant were so hot.
The Gold Medal game is Sunday at 10am and while the US is the defending gold medalist, they want to show the world the they are in a league of their own this year.
Spain would be wise to stay out of their way.
