TSD College Football Primer: Week 2

If you are looking for some big time games this weekend, you will not get it.  There are no top 25 matchups on the schedule, but week 2 is always a slow college ball week for the big boys.  Here is my take on the games I am putting action on and how I fared the last week.

Last Week:  3-6

Pick That Made Me Look Smart:

Taking Ohio straight-up over Penn State was big.  Even though I went 3-6, I was able to have a plus money week from this pick.

Pick That Made Me Look Bad:

Navy covering the 18 points they were getting from Notre Dame was a very bad bet and I knew that by the end of the 1st quarter.

I will mention the Michigan/Bama game and thank Brady Hoke for saving me some cash.  I laid off the Michigan +14 bet I wanted to make when he benched his starting RB for the game.  The way Bama looked I don’t think he would have mattered.

Thursday 9/6/12

Pitt at Cincinnati (-4.5) 8pm ESPN

After losing to Youngstown State, the Panthers have the sounds of Springsteen still ringing in their ears. ( Youngstown reference, top 5 Springsteen song).  The Bearcats are at home and will bite more than the Penguins did.  I see a big time loss by Pitt and I am betting heavy.

Friday 9/7/12

Utah (-7.5) at Utah State 8pm ESPN2

Get ready to watch the Star Lotulelei show.  The Utah DT is on top of many 2013 draft boards and is always causing havoc inside.  The Aggies come in with some swagger, but it won’t last long.  The Utes win by double-digits.

Saturday 9/8/12

N.C. State (-5) at Connecticut 12pm ESPN3/MASN2

N.C. State has to travel up north, after getting an SEC style beating by the Vols and the result could be the same from the Huskies.  QB Chandler Whitmer is fully able to light up the State secondary and the Huskie D is stout also.  Loving the Huskies at +5.

Auburn at Mississippi State (-3) 12pm ESPN

Are you ready for some 3D football?  If you are this is the game you will be watching.  MSU only got tackled once last week and it was during the run out to the field.  Auburn will not be as forgiving as Jackson State was.  Look for Auburn to bounce back and get back into the top 25.

Florida at Texas A&M (-1.5) 3:30pm ESPN

A&M started the trash talk with a billboard in Gainesville and will finish off the Gators in College Station.  If Florida starts this game as slow as they did last week, A&M will roll.

Oklahoma State (-10.5) at Arizona 10:30pm Over 69.5 PAC12 Network

I am betting OSU and the Over all day long.  I am even thinking about emptying the account on this game.  OSU could break the over on their own, without the help of Rich Rod’s Wildcats.

Georgia (-2) at Missouri 7:45pm ESPN

Georgia takes its first step to a SEC East title and introduces the Tigers to the SEC the hard way.  Both teams will put up points, but I think in the end the Bulldogs will get more.

Purdue at Notre Dame (-14) 3:30pm NBC

ND’s Braxton Cave vs. Purdue’s Kawann Short is the matchup to watch.  Can Short stop ND’s running game or will Cave and the rest of the O-Line keep the lanes open?  I think ND wins this game, but Purdue covers the +14. (Betting against ND covering 10 pt+ spreads 2 weeks in a row????)

Penn State at Virginia (-10) 12pm ABC

This is my upset special of the week.  I think PSU will fare better on the road, away from Happy Valley, than they will at home.  Betting them to cover and taking them outright.
