TSD College Football Primer: Week 5

The college football schedule is not too impressive overall this weekend, but we should have some quality games.  I love the Baylor/WVU matchup and can’t wait for the airshow.  The upset watch will be in Stillwater as the Longhorns come to town.

Last Week:  5-5 (20-19)

Last Week Pick That Made Me Look Smart:

Betting KSU to cover and beat Oklahoma was big.  Oklahoma was looking suspect and K-State was underrated.

Last Week Pick That Made Me Look Bad:

Thinking Arizona could stay within 24 points of Oregon was stupid.  The Duck’s D is the real deal and they are a prime contender for a SEC beat down in the BCS Championship.

Thursday 9/13/12

#8 Stanford (-6.5) at Washington 9pm ESPN

Can Josh Nunez be Andrew Luck’s Tee Martin?  The Stanford Cardinals are a disciplined team that is straight set up for success.  I love the pressure they put on the QB and get after the ball.  Their offense won’t overpower Washington, but they will get a double-digit win.

Saturday 9/15/12

#25 Baylor at #9 West Virginia (-13.5) 12pm FX

West Virginia gets its 1st taste of the BIG12 this weekend with the 3-0 Baylor Bears coming to town.  If you love offense, you will love this game.  Both rank in the top 10 in points and yards per game in the nation and they both have D’s ranked in the hundreds.  I love the talent of WVU and I think they will give the Bears the 14 points and run away.  Even at 81.5, I’m taking the over all day long.

N.C. State at Miami (-2.5) 12pm ESPNU

State starts its ACC season with an always difficult trip to South Beach.  The Canes are sitting just on the outside of the rankings and that loss to K-State is not looking as bad as it once did.  The Pack has been non-impressive so far and I think that Miami will continue to improve and be one of the favorites in the ACC Coastal.

#14 Ohio State at #20 Michigan State (-2.5) 3:30pm ABC

It’s not good for the BIG10, when your best team isn’t favored against the underperforming Spartans.  I don’t like either team and think that whoever gets out of the BIG10 has no chance at the PAC12 in the Rose Bowl, but I see the Buckeyes winning here as the dog.

Tennessee at #5 Georgia (-12.5) 3:30pm CBS

I now have a healthy respect for this Georgia team and I think that UT will have no chance to hang with them.  I think the Vols are more battle tested this season, but now Georgia looks like the 2nd best team in the nation behind Alabama.

#12 Texas (-3) at Oklahoma State 7:50pm FOX

This is my upset special for the weekend that might not really be an upset.  OSU is a very good team and just had an off game in Arizona.  Texas’ next 3 games are OSU, WVU and OU, so we will find out if they are for real very soon.  I think the Cowboys at home will have enough offense to upset the Longhorns.

Wisconsin at #22 Nebraska (-11) 8pm ABC

It’s the Wisconsin run defense vs. the Nebraska running game in this BIG10 battle.  I think Nebraska is the better team, but the Badgers will keep it closer than 11 points.

#18 Oregon State at Arizona (-2.5) 10pm ESPN2

I am off the Rich Rod bandwagon after the beating in Oregon and backing the Beavers big time.  The Beaver D will be all over the Wildcats and Saturday night and they will push for the top 10 on Sunday.
