TSD College Football Primer: Week 7

Do you remember the last time you had the wind knocked out of you?  That’s how I felt after this last weekend of college football.  Sucker punched in the gut all day Saturday has me reeling and betting from the hole this weekend.  I am staying away from the action on Thursday and Friday, but it you are asking I like ASU (-23) to roll the Buffaloes and Navy/CMU to crush the over (57).  I am looking for the SC/LSU game to be a classic SEC battle and for the Duke/VT game to be a high scoring affair.

Last Week:  2-8 (27-31, 47%)

Last Week Pick That Made Me Look Smart:

Picking West Virgina to beat Texas on the road was one of my few high points last weekend.  I bet them to win outright, so it was a solid money win.

Last Week Picks That Made Me Look Bad:

Most of my picks were bad last week.  SC killing Georgia, ND rolling Miami and Florida beating LSU hurt me so bad, I am still licking my wounds nearly a week later.

Saturday 10/13/12

#15 Texas vs. #13 Oklahoma (-3.5) (Cotton Bowl) 12pm ABC

For the first time in years the loser of the Red River shootout will be 2 games back in the BIG12 standings and out of striking distance from WVU and Kansas State.  Both teams are fairly evenly matched and I look for a close game that will come down to turnovers.  Look for Texas to win for the first time since 2009.

Duke at Virginia Tech (-10) 12:30pm CBS

How can Duke be a 10-point underdog?  I don’t see it.  This Duke team is the most complete team Duke has ever fielded and they look like they are getting better each week.  The Hokies are still dangerous and they could win this game, but I am looking for Duke to win the game and get bowl eligible for the 1st time since 1994.  Looking for points aplenty in this game also O/U 54.

#17 Stanford at #7 Notre Dame (-7.5) 3:30pm NBC

This will be Notre Dame’s toughest matchup of the season, but I don’t see that bothering them much.  Their defense is legit and it is on par with Alabama (Don’t laugh, I’m right).  They don’t give up TDs and they will harass Nunes all night.  If Brian Kelly can get 10 pts out of his offense they will win easy.

#5 West Virgina (-4.5) at Texas Tech 3:30pm ABC

If you just look at the numbers, this is a top offense vs. a top defense.  The top offense will show up, but the Texas Tech defense is just a mirage.  Geno Smith will continue his Heisman run and I look for WVU to win big.

#11 USC (-12.5) at Washington 7pm FOX

Ask the Stanford Cardinals how much fun a trip to Washington can be.  The Huskies have upset one PAC12 powerhouse this year and they have the talent to get another.  I don’t see the Trojans losing, but I look for Washington to keep it closer than 10.

#3 South Carolina at #9 LSU (-2.5) 8pm  ESPN

We will find out this weekend if South Carolina is legit National Title contender.  If they can win a primetime trip to Baton Rouge, Oregon will have trouble holding on to the 2nd spot.  This game will be a defensive battle from the start.  12-6, 6-3, 9-7…  This is the type of score we are going to get on Saturday night.   I look for LSU to defend their turf and to pick up a big SEC win.

#22 Texas A&M (-8.5) at #23 Louisiana Tech 9pm ESPNU

A top 25 matchup involving Louisiana Tech is a game I have to jump on.  I love a small fighter taking a chance on a big boy, but I don’t think this ends well.  A&M is too big and strong for La Tech to hang with for 4 qtrs.  Look for the game to be close at halftime and out of reach late.
