If you have listened to more than 3 minutes of sports radio this week, you have been blasted with how bad the New York Yankees high-priced bats have been in the A.L. series vs. the Orioles. The Yankees live and die by the HR and they are not getting anything from their HR hitters. Cano, Granderson, Swisher and A-Rod are hitting .107 (7/65) against Orioles pitching. We all know about Joe Girardi pulling A-Rod in the 9th and using Raul Ibanez. We also all know how good that worked out for him. I think the success of Raul Ibanez and Jayson Nix may work to Girardi’s disadvantage.
The popular choice would be to put Chavez at 3B and Ibanez at DH against the right handed Hammell. This would leave A-Rod on the bench and I think it would do more harm than good. This is what I would do.
You got your stud in C.C. Sabathia taking the mound and that tends to make the rest of the team looser. I think Cano, Grandy and A-Rod are all pressing. Getting them an excuse to loosen up could free them up. Set your lineup at Jeter, Ichiro, Cano, A-Rod, Tex, Grandy, Swish, Chavez, and Martin. All it takes in one good swing and the Yankee bats are back. So don’t sweat the bums who are yelling for you to shake up your lineup, Joe. Roll with your $80M strikeout machines. They have to hit one day.
