TSD College Football Primer: Week 8

Last Week:  2-6 (29-38, 43%)

Last Week Picks That Made Me Look Smart:

None!  Last week was a bad week for me on the college football betting front.  Upsets, close games and generally bad bets made my weekend tough.

Last Week Pick That Made Me Look Bad:

All of them.

Thursday 10/18/12

#2 Oregon (-9.5) at Arizona State 9pm ESPN

I want the Sun Devils bad, but I just don’t see them slowing down the Ducks enough to keep it inside 2 TDs.  The Sun Devils are 3-0 in the PAC12 and will give the Ducks their first test of the year.  It will be an easy test to pass though.  I am taking the Over at 66.

Saturday 10/20/12

#6 LSU (-3.5) at #20 Texas A&M 12pm ESPN

Johnny Manziel vs. the best defense he has faced all year.  Both teams share a loss to the Gators and that is about it.  LSU’s passing offense is a wreck, but their defense is a legit beast.  Look for Manziel to struggle vs. Mingo and Co..

Virginia Tech at #14 Clemson (-8.5) 12pm ABC

The Tigers look to put up big numbers against a struggling VT D.  VT’s offense will have all kinds of problems keeping up with them.  Clemson by 20+.

#9 South Carolina at #3 Florida (-3.5) 3:30pm CBS

With Lattimore a bit hobbled, look for Florida to be able to put enough defensive pressure on Conner Shaw to slow him down.  Driskel has enough talent to make SC’s pass rush lose contain.  Clowney will get to him early, but Florida will win going away.

Michigan State at #23 Michigan (-10.5) 3:30pm BTN

The 2 teams are moving in the opposite directions.  MSU down and UM up.  Michigan is scoring points again and they are looking to blow out their in state rival.  I see them winning big.

#4 Kansas State at #17 West Virginia (-3.5) 7pm FOX

Collin Klein vs. Geno Smith with a Heisman trophy in the balance.  Whoever wins this game is going to move to the top of the Heisman watch list.  West Virginia was exposed by Texas Tech last week and should be ready at home for K-State.  I think Bill Snyder has built himself a title contender and I think the Wildcats will pull the road upset.

North Carolina (-10.5) at Duke 7pm ESPNU

The Heels have the talent advantage on the field and the sideline, but the Devils are at home and dangerous.   Giovani Bernard is going to get his rushing yards, but if Duke can pass on the Carolina D, then they can keep it close.  If it’s close near the end…  Who knows what will happen.

#12 Florida State (-17.5) at Miami 8pm ABC

17 points is a big number, but with the Miami QB situation in question due to injuries, look for FSU to roll.  E.J. Manuel is playing hot and the D will get after whomever in behind the Miami center.
